Bending a slab of neural tissue

چکیده

In comparative and developmental neuroanatomy one encounters questions regarding the deformation of neural tissue under stress. The motivation of this note is an observation (Barbas et al[1]) that at cortical folds or gyri, the layers of neural tissue show relative thickening or thinning of upper or deep layers. In general, the material properties of a slab of neural tissue are not known, and even if known, would probably lead to a difficult problem in elasticity theory. Here a simple argument is presented to show that bending an elastic slab should produce a relative thickening of the layers on the inside of the bend. The argument is based on the incompressibility of the material and should therefore be fairly robust.

PREDICTION OF LOAD DEFLECTION BEHAVIOUR OF TWO WAY RC SLAB USING NEURAL NETWORK APPROACH

Reinforced concrete (RC) slabs exhibit complexities in their structural behavior under load due to the composite nature of the material and the multitude and variety of factors that affect such behavior. Current methods for determining the load-deflection behavior of reinforced concrete slabs are limited in scope and are mostly dependable on the results of experimental tests. In this study, an ...

Prediction of Bending Angle for Laser Forming of Tailor Machined Blanks by Neural Network

Tailor-made blanks are sheet metal assemblies with different thicknesses and/or materials and/or surface coatings. A monolithic sheet can be machined to make the required thickness variations that is referred as tailor machined blanks. Due to the thickness variation in tailor machined blanks, laser bending of these blanks is more complicated than monolithic plates. In this article, laser formin...

Dynamic Response of the Coupled Vehicle-Floating Slab Track System using Finite Element Method

In present study, a mathematical model of the vehicle–floating slab track (FST) interaction is established to investigate the coupled behaviour of vehicle–track system. The FST is modelled as the double Euler -Bernoulli beam including the rail and slab. The railway vehicle is simplified as a multi-rigid-body model. The wheel–rail interface is treated using a nonlinear Hertzian contact model, co...

PREDICTION OF BIAXIAL BENDING BEHAVIOR OF STEEL-CONCRETE COMPOSITE BEAM-COLUMNS BY ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK

In this study, the complex behavior of steel encased reinforced concrete (SRC) composite beam–columns in biaxial bending is predicted by multilayer perceptron neural network. For this purpose, the previously proposed nonlinear analysis model, mixed beam-column formulation, is verified with biaxial bending test results. Then a large set of benchmark frames is provided and P-Mx-My triaxial ...
